- to lobby for FDA e-cig deeming ban
Breaking News: Three weeks after MTF finds far more 8th, 10th and 12th graders smoke cigarettes than use nicotine e-cigs (7.0% vs < 2.6%), CDC report and press release lie about impact of e-cig ads on teens to lobby for FDA deeming ban and for State anti vaping programs/policies. “The same advertising tactics the tobacco industry used years ago to get kids addicted to nicotine are now being used to entice a new generation of young people to use e-cigarettes,” said CDC Director Tom Frieden.
Mike Siegel: Without any evidence, CDC continues to claim that e-cigarettes are a gateway to youth smoking
Two weeks after MTF finds far more 8th, 10th and 12th graders smoke cigarettes than use nicotine e-cigs (7.0% vs < 2.6%), CDC director Tom Frieden deceitfully claims e-cigs are a greater health threat for kids than cigarettes in year-end press release.
“CDC works to protect the health, safety and security of Americans – and 2015 was a particularly challenging – and successful – year,” said CDC Director Tom Frieden, M.D., M.P.H. “Old and new threats to our health, such as Ebola, dengue, HIV, e-cigarette use among kids, foodborne illness, prescription drug overdoses, and increased drug resistance are just a few of the threats that kept us up at night – and will keep us busy in 2016.”
Two weeks after MTF finds far more 8th, 10th and 12th graders smoke cigarettes than use nicotine e-cigs (7.0% vs < 2.6%), CDC repeats its false and heavily publicized claims about data from 2014 NYTS (that never asked teens if they vaped nicotine) to yet again lobby for FDA’s nicotine e-cig sales ban to adults:
“A 2014 study shows, for the first time, current e-cigarette use among middle and high school students surpassed current use of every other tobacco product, including conventional cigarettes, introducing a new generation to nicotine addiction.”
Note that CDC’s January Vital Signs will focus on teens and tobacco (and will likely repeat lies about teens, e-cigs, nicotine, OTP, flavorings and smoking cessation yet again, as that’s been Obama’s DHHS policy since 2009).
Sally Satel: The Year in E-Cigarettes: The Good, The Bad, The Reason for Optimism
French 2014 Health Barometer survey found virtually all vapers (i.e. e-cig users) 15-75 years old were current (83.1%) or former (15.0%) cigarette smokers, an estimated 400,000 vapers were former smokers who quit by switching to vaping, 80% of vapers reported reducing cigarette consumption; findings disprove many fear mongering claims made by e-cig prohibitionists since 2009 (including many government health officials) http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/26687039
Chinese government says number of cigarette smokers increased by 15 million (to 316 million) since 2011. Note that cigarettes are less expensive than e-cigs in China.
Study finds smokers who never vaped have far less knowledge and far more concerns about the efficacy and safety of vaping than smokers who vape; documents how false fear mongering claims about vaping protect cigarettes, discourage smokers from switching

Polish survey finds cigarette smoking among 16-24 year olds declined from 21.6% in 2009, to 19.4% in 2011, to 18.1% in 2013, and to 15.5% in 2015;

finding disproves Goneiwicz et al fraud/junk study claiming cigarette smoking among 15-19 year old Polish teens increased from 23.9% in 2010/11 to 38% in 2013/14, and falsely claiming e-cigs don’t reduce cigarette smoking. Thanks to Zvi Herzig for tip.
New Polish teen survey data also disproves false fear mongering claims about e-cigs by FDA/NIH funded Dutra and Glantz (in editorial accompanying Goneiwicz et al study) at
Note 10/22/14 Godshall comments criticizing Goneiwicz et al for manufacturing false cigarette smoking prevalence data in Poland so they could make false fear mongering claims about e-cigs, and exposing Glantz & Dutra for conspiring with Goneiwicz et al to manufacture fraudulent fear mongering claims about e-cigs and teens.
Also note that 2015 MTF finding that <20% of US teens who use e-cigs vaped nicotine disproves virtually every claim since 2009 made by Obama’s DHHS, their funding recipients, Big Pharma shills and other e-cig prohibitionists about e-cigs regarding teens, nicotine addiction, gateway to cigarettes, dual use, renormalization of smoking, etc.

Boston Globe article repeats false claims about scientific evidence on e-cigs and impact of FDA deeming reg (that bans sales of >99.9% of nicotine e-cigs to adults) “it would likely require pre-market review of the devices - a process that is used to determine whether potentially risky products are safe” and “is also expected to ban sales to minors”.
Bill Godshall and Smokefree Pennsylvania submit 159 page comment urging FDA to reject its proposal to deny 1st Amendment right of vapor and smokeless tobacco companies to make truthful statements about products, which FDA called a “Clarification of when products made or derived from tobacco are regulated as drugs, devices, or combination products; amendments to regulations regarding “intended uses””
US Veterans Affairs/NIH funded UCSD study finds cells that survived 8 weeks in e-liquid die within 24 hours in cigarette smoke, but abstract falsely claimed e-cig vapor is cytotoxic, and lead researcher Jessica Wang-Rodriquez misrepresented her own study’s findings (in a VA press release) to falsely claim “I believe they are no better than smoking regular cigarettes,” lazy and stupid news media (mostly in UK) repeat false fear mongering claims about study to further confuse, scare and sensationalize.

Two weeks after MTF finds far more 8th, 10th and 12th graders smoke cigarettes than use nicotine e-cigs (7.0% vs < 2.6%), NIDA’s e-cig webpage still protects cigarettes by lying about e-cigs (including false insinuating that e-cigs are addicting nonsmokers, are gateways to cigarettes, are as harmful as cigarettes, and haven’t helped people quit smoking) don’t help smoker quit smoking cigarettes, and false assertion that e-cigs are as harmful as cigarettes), nicotine, addiction, including claims that were disproved by NIDA funded 2015 MTF survey
Two weeks after MTF finds far more 8th, 10th and 12th graders smoke cigarettes than use nicotine e-cigs (7.0% vs < 2.6%), NIDA website still features director Nora Volkow touting falsified findings of a NIDA funded junk study (that never asked if nicotine was vaped) claiming e-cigs are gateways to cigarette smoking due to nicotine in e-cigs.
Note that NIDA funded activist Adam Leventhal, JAMA, Big Pharma funded CTFK and Nancy Rigotti, and Legacy also touted the same falsified study findings to deceitfully claim e-cigs are gateways to cigarettes; with no retractions made for those false claims.
22nd Century submits MRTP application to FDA for low nicotine cigarettes that are likely to prompt smokers to inhale smoke more often and deeper, smoke more cigarettes (to obtain desired level of nicotine), and increase disease risks among smokers who use them; but Vector’s Quest low nicotine cigarettes were discontinued due to market failure.

Iowa AG Tom Miller tells some truths about vapor products, but fails to correct/clarify his past false claims, fails to withdraw his support for FDA’s deeming ban, and claims he still supports workplace vaping bans (that were prompted by false fear mongering claims) https://admin.iowaattorneygeneral.gov/media/cms/20151223_Miller_statement_on_ecigar_160B8FDBC0869.pdf
